JOSE LOVES DROGBA

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has praised the attitude and skill of striker Demba Ba by saying that he reminded him of former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, who is considered a legend in these parts.

Demba Ba scored the second goal in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Paris St Germain. This goal helped the blues reach the Champions League semi-final at the expense of PSG. Chelsea are in danger of missing out on the competition’s latter stages despite having secured the opening goal in the match through Andre Schurrle. This was because of the 3-1 defeat suffered the first leg.

A 2-0 win was enough for Chelsea to go through and it only came in the final few minutes of normal time. After scoring, Ba was deployed as a defender for the remaining few minutes since Jose Mourinho had three strikers on the pitch. After the match, the manager said that the team was very open and too attack minded with the way they were playing. Hence, he needed to make some changes tactically and the striker Ba was requested to play in defence for this purpose. Fernando Torres was used out wide along with Samuel Eto’o.

Chelsea were held on to register this famous win, which sparked memories of Drogba and his familiar ways of helping out the defence in the similar situations.

“His contribution was massive in the game. After (the goal) he was fantastic. Fantastic central defender. He reminded me a bit of Didier in the old times when we needed him (in defence) in the last minutes. And Nando playing right back and chasing Maxwell all the way. Fantastic spirit,” said the Chelsea manager, who has not picked Ba for most of the season. The former Newcastle United man is widely expected to leave Chelsea in the summer.
